

719.013 DRESS CODE:
All offenders and visitors are subject to searches for the safety and security of NDOC properties.
- Offenders
- The offender will be strip searched prior to their visit. They will also be strip searched at the conclusion of their visit before returning to their housing unit.
- Dress Code Basics. These apply to both adults and children.
- Clothing will be free of reference to obscenity, alcohol, drugs, Security Threat Groups (STG), violence, sex in any form.
- There will be no sports logos of any kind allowed. This includes all major sports teams, colleges, and universities.
- These solid colors are not allowed in the visiting area:
- Green (officers wear)
- Blue
- Orange
- Red
* Lettering in these colors will be permitted *
Visitors are expected to wear sensible and conservative attire. The following is issued as a guideline:
- No blue denim jeans, jackets, skirts, etc.
- No shorts, (exception: children under the age of eight (8) years).
- No white T-shirts.
- No see-through clothing.
- No bare midriffs blouses.
- No halter or tank tops.
- No sleeveless shirts.
- No revealing or low-cut blouses, dresses or shirts (front collar should be no less than 2 inches above cleavage).
- No plunging necklines either on the back or front of any garment.
- No miniskirts or mini dresses, as defined as less than two inches above the knee.
- No slits longer than three inches (3″) in skirts/dresses.
- No wrap-around skirts
- Dress length will be to the calf.
- Spandex-type pants when worn as outer garments, i.e., stirrups, stretch, tight fitting pants will only be allowed with a shirt that extends beyond the length of the fingertip. (Exceptions to stretch clothing will be made for pregnant women.)
- No stretch skirts, no tight-fitting skirts of any fabric.
- No bare-feet or flip flops. Shoes must be always worn.
- No hats, headbands, scarves, or bandannas.
- No clothing with any gang affiliation logos, foul language, offensive logos (to include but not limited to swastikas, violent images, or other, at the discretion of the designated staff member).
- No wigs, toupees, or hair pieces.
- No sunglasses (prescription only).
- Ladies and men must wear undergarments as appropriate to always include undergarments.
- No jewelry in excessive amounts. (At the discretion of the designated staff member)
- Visitors should refrain from wearing heavy perfumes or body sprays.
- Coats/jackets may be worn into the institution, but not into the visiting room. Visitors may only wear light sweaters while in the visiting room. Each facility, at the discretion of the Warden, may provide either a designated area or allow for the coats/jackets to be hung on the back of the visitor’s chair.
OTHER ITEMS FOR WHICH RESTRICTIONS APPLY
- Forty dollars ($40.00) in quarters (coins) only, per adult visitor. Some institutions and facilities may allow debt card.
- Life supporting medication only, and only in amount necessary for the duration of visit. Medication will be held by the Institutional Visiting Officer during the period of the visit and may be dispensed as needed or requested.
- If you have prosthetics devices or other medical devices, please notify the visiting staff in advance so that reasonable accommodations may be made.
- Wallets or purses may not be brought into the Institution. Small storage lockers, in limited quantities, are available at some Institutions to secure such items during the visit. The Institution is not responsible for any property. Therefore, it is recommended that personal property be secured in your vehicle.
Baby and small childcare:
- Two (2) diapers and five (5) baby wipes in a clear see-through bag are permitted. Exceptions for special visits lasting all day may be granted at the discretion of the visiting room officer.
- One (1) change of clothing.
- Formula may be brought in pre-measured into clear plastic bottles to be kept with the Visiting Officer. Allowance to fill the bottle with water and heat in a microwave will be made upon request. WARNING: Glass bottles or jars are prohibited.
- No toys, teething rings, or strollers are permitted and should be left in the visitor’s car.
- Diaper bags will be a clear plastic type, not of cloth material.
